World Heart Day

One of my closest friends is a cancer survivor. She had breast cancer when we were just 16 and had years of grueling therapy after that. I saw how she handled the whole process. I was glad not to have been struck by that monstrous sickness, and was so sad because my best friend in the whole world is going through those sickening procedures.

Last September, she invited me to attend an event downtown. I was quite busy for the day, but she insisted on me going, so I did. It was a celebration of the World Heart Day, and there were a lot of people gathered there. People handed out awareness promotional products. Printed on them were all about the different types of cancers. There were also a lot of aids and heart disease promotional products. This did not surprise me. After all, that was a celebration of the World Heart Day. I was given one of those products, but my friend told not to wear it that day. She said she will give me something else to wear.

When we were already inside the hall, she gave me breast cancer promotional products. I immediately wore the shirt because the program was about to start. The talks were quite interesting, and the audience seemed mesmerized when cancer survivors talked about how they handled the ordeal.

The day was long and tiring, but I plan to attend the same event next year. Funny, but there’s something in the crowd that lures me into participating in the event.
